1989-96 Newfield Sports Pages - Follies and Bloopers
This is a multi-sport, mail order issue from the mid 1990s that has various subsets and covers all sports. These were released yearly and were meant to go in a three-ring binder. The variations can be difficult to catalog since the catalog numbering system seemed to change over time and the copyrights were updated inconsistently, but I think I have it figured out. On my checklist, here is how I identify the variations.
Starting in 1993, they listed the year on the back, lower-left hand corner in parentheses like this: (93). so it is easy to identify items from 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996. Prior to 1993, they had copyrights for Newfield publications for either 1989, 1990 or 1991. I list those with the year 1989-91. If there is a copyright from 1989 and (94), I list it with a year of 1994. For some unknown reason, in 1995 and 1996, instead of a year in parentheses, there is a string like this: (J2055). Strange.
Each item I list is unique in some way, the pictures, text, or stats may be different or it may just be the year. I capture the differences in the description. The main number is on the back in the lower right corner, it has six digits with a dash separating the first four and last two numbers. From 1989-1994,the six digit cataloging number started with a "5", but somewhere in 1994 or 1995 they started using a "0" instead. After the catalog numbers, I put the title of the card and finally I'll list any variations that are included like different stats, pictures, design or corrected errors. Occasionally, you will see a sheet with the Sports Page logo in the corner on the front, I think these may be promos, but I have not confirmed that yet.
The Checklist is below and here are links to the subsets:
